Study Endpoints

Primary Endpoints

31P-MRS Redox Ratio
Baseline to 12 Weeks

The change in 31P-MRS NAD+/NADH ratio was measured by a partial volume coil that images the parietal and occipital lobes as a single value with respect to the fraction (%) of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) signal measured as either the oxidized (NAD+) or reduced form (NADH). The primary endpoint was the mean change from Baseline to Week 12 in the ratio of NAD+ to NADH (NAD+/NADH) in the Intent to Treat population. A paired t-test was used to analyze the mean change from baseline.

The change from baseline to week 12 in CNS metabolic changes, based on 31P-MRS Redox Ratio.
At 12 Weeks

Mean change in average NAD+/NADH measured brain Redox Ratio by treatment cohort from Baseline to Week 12.

Interventions

NameTypeDescription
Gold NanocrystalsDRUGCNM-Au8 is a dark red/purple-colored liquid formulation consisting of a stable suspension of faceted clean surfaced elemental gold nanocrystals in buffered deionized water with a concentration of up to 0.5 mg/mL of gold. The formulation is buffered by sodium bicarbonate present at a concentration of 0.546 mg/mL. There are no other excipients. The drug product is formulated to be taken orally and will be provided in single dose HDPE containers. The study doses vary by the concentration of gold nanocrystals per milliliter in a volume of 60 mL.

Frequently asked questions about Gold Nanocrystals

What is Gold Nanocrystals used for?

Gold Nanocrystals, also known as CNM-Au8, is an investigational small molecule being developed for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development and has not been approved by regulatory authorities.

What does Gold Nanocrystals target?

Gold Nanocrystals is designed to improve impaired neuronal redox state, which is the balance of oxidation and reduction reactions in cells. It is being studied for its effects on this cellular process in patients with Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

Who makes Gold Nanocrystals?

Gold Nanocrystals is being developed by Clene Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. The company's stock is traded under the ticker symbol CLNN on the stock market.

What phase is Gold Nanocrystals in?

Gold Nanocrystals is in Phase 2 clinical development. It is an investigational drug, meaning it has not yet been approved by the FDA or other regulatory agencies for commercial use.

What clinical trials is Gold Nanocrystals in?

Gold Nanocrystals has been studied in two completed Phase 2 trials. One trial, NCT03815916, assessed its effects on neuronal redox state in Parkinson's Disease with 13 participants. Another trial, NCT03993171, evaluated its effects in Multiple Sclerosis with 33 participants.

Is Gold Nanocrystals the same as CNM-Au8?

Yes, Gold Nanocrystals is also known as CNM-Au8. Both names refer to the same investigational drug being developed by Clene Inc. for neurological conditions.
