Anecortave is an investigational small molecule being developed for ophthalmology indications, including posterior uveitis and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It has been studied in clinical trials for these conditions, though it remains in clinical development and is not approved.
Anecortave is being developed by Alcon Inc. (ticker: ALC). The company has conducted clinical trials of the drug for ophthalmology indications, including AMD and posterior uveitis.
Anecortave is in Phase 2 clinical development. It has completed two Phase 2 trials and one Phase 1 trial, along with a Phase 3 trial, all of which are completed. The drug is investigational and not yet approved.
Anecortave has completed several clinical trials, including NCT00058994 (Phase 3 in exudative AMD), NCT00346866 (Phase 2 in AMD following PDT), NCT00346957 (Phase 2 in exudative AMD), and NCT00570479 (Phase 1 in posterior uveitis). All trials are completed.
Anecortave is also known as anecortave acetate. Clinical trials such as NCT00058994 refer to anecortave acetate, and the drug is commonly identified by this name in research contexts.
