Ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide is a combination treatment for hypertension, also called high blood pressure. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor and hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, and the two are used together to lower blood pressure in adults with essential hypertension. The combination has been studied in a Phase 3 trial in the United States.
Ramipril and hydrochlorothiazide targets ACE, or angiotensin-converting enzyme. Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor, meaning it blocks this enzyme to reduce blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that works through a different mechanism to promote fluid and sodium excretion. Together the two components lower blood pressure through complementary pathways.
