Primary Endpoints

Progression-free Survival (PFS) Time, as Assessed by an Independent Review Committee (IRC)
Every 6 weeks starting from the date of randomization until occurrence of PD, assessed up to data-cutoff (904 days)

PFS time was defined as the time in months from the date of randomization until first observation of PD (based on imaging as assessed by IRC), or death due to any cause when death occurs within 60 days after the last tumor assessment or randomization (whichever is later). PD is defined as at least a 20 percent (%) increase in the sum of diameters of target lesions, taking as reference the smallest sum on trial; and/or unequivocal progression of existing non-target lesions and/or the presence of new lesions. The sum must also demonstrate an absolute increase of at least 5 millimeter. PFS was measured using Kaplan-Meier (KM) estimates.

Progression Free Survival (PFS) Time
Baseline up to 333 weeks

PFS was defined as the duration (in months) from randomization until the first progressive disease (PD) observation as assessed by the Independent Review Committee (IRC) according to Response Evaluation Criteria for Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.0, or death due to any cause when death occurred within 90 days of randomization or the last tumor assessment, whichever was later. PD was defined as at least a 20% increase in the sum of longest diameter (LD) of the target lesions, taking as references the smallest sum LD since the treatment started (including baseline), or appearance of one or more new lesions, and/or unequivocal progression of existing non-target lesions.

CR was defined as disappearance of all index lesions. PR was defined as a 50% or more decrease in the sum of the products of diameters (SOPD) of index lesions compared to the baseline SOPD, with no evidence of PD.

Overall Survival (OS) Time
Time from trial inclusion to death or last day known to be alive, reported between day of first participant included, that is, Jan 2009 until cut-off date (17 Dec 2011)

The OS time is defined as the time from trial inclusion to death. Participants without event are censored at the last date known to be alive or at the clinical cut-off date, whichever is earlier.

The primary clinical objective is to determine the efficacy of a standard 1st-line regimen (FOLFIRI plus cetuximab) in patients with RAS wild-type mCRC with Avelumab mainte-nance in terms of progression free survival rate after 8 months (according to RECIST 1.1).

Response rate was defined as the percentage of subjects with BORR (confirmed complete response \[CR\] or partial response \[PR\]) according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST version 1.0) criteria. As per RECIST v 1.0 criteria for target lesions and assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): CR = disappearance of all target lesions; PR = at least 30 percent (%) decrease in the sum of the longest diameter of target lesions. Response rate will be assessed every 8 weeks.

Cetuximab + FOLFOX-4EXPERIMENTALSubjects received cetuximab in combination with FOLFOX-4 chemotherapy regimen. FOLFOX-4 chemotherapy regimen consists of a combination of oxaliplatin with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)/folinic acid (FA). Cetuximab was always administered every 7 days with an initial dose of 400 milligram per square meter (mg/m\^2) at 5 milligram per minute (mg/min) and 250 mg/m\^2 at 10 mg/min for subsequent infusions, followed by oxaliplatin 85 mg/m\^2 infused over 120 minutes at least 1 hour later. Following completion of the oxaliplatin infusion or simultaneously with oxaliplatin, FA was administered at a dose of 200 mg/m\^2 infused over 120 minutes, on Day 1, Day 2, and every 2 weeks and then 5- FU was administered as a bolus of 400 mg/m\^2/day intravenously over 2-4 minutes followed by 600 mg/m\^2/day infused over 22 hours, on Day 1, Day 2, and every 2 weeks. All subjects received treatment until progression of disease, withdrawal of consent, or unacceptable toxicity.

S-1DRUGS-1, a combination of tegafur, gimeracil, and oteracil will be administered intravenously at a dose of 40 to 60 mg/m\^2 orally twice daily for first three consecutive weeks of 5-week cycle until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or withdrawal of consent.
cetuximab, cisplatinDRUGSubjects will receive an initial dose of cetuximab 400 milligram per square meter (mg/m\^2) followed by weekly doses of 250 mg/m\^2. All doses will be given by intravenous (IV) infusion. Subjects will receive cisplatin (75 mg/m\^2 IV on Day 1) every 3 weeks, with a maximum of 6 cycles. Administration of the Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) will be stopped upon the first occurrence of disease progression, unacceptable toxicity or withdrawal of consent.
FOLFIRIDRUGIrinotecan will be administered intravenously at a dose of 180 mg/m\^2 along with folinic acid administration intravenously at a dose of 400 mg/m\^2 (racemic) or 200 mg/m\^2 (L-form) and 5-fluorouracil will be administered intravenously at a dose of 400 mg/m\^2 bolus followed by a 46-hour continuous infusion of 2,400 mg/m\^2 given biweekly until disease progression, death, or consent withdrawal.
FOLFOXDRUGOxaliplatin will be administered intravenously at a dose of 100 mg/m\^2 along with folinic acid administration intravenously at a dose of 400 mg/m\^2 (racemic) or 200 mg/m\^2 (L-form) and 5-fluorouracil administration intravenously at a dose of 400 mg/m\^2 bolus followed by a 46-hour continuous infusion of 2,400 mg/m\^2 given biweekly until disease progression, death, or consent withdrawal.
