Travoprost is used to lower intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is a small molecule prostaglandin F receptor agonist. Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. (OCUL) is developing a travoprost-based formulation studied in a Phase 3 trial in these eye conditions.
Travoprost targets PTGFR, the prostaglandin F receptor, where it acts as an agonist. Activation of this receptor increases aqueous humor outflow from the eye, which reduces intraocular pressure. This mechanism underlies its use in open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
