A recent study published in the journal Shock investigated circulating nucleosome levels in patients following traumatic injury using the Nu.Q ® H3.1 and Nu.Q ® H3R8 Cit assays.
The pilot study, titled “Quantification of Circulating Nucleosomes Using Novel Assays Shows Elevated Levels in Patients After Traumatic Injury,” analyzed plasma samples from more than 500 trauma patients and found significantly elevated nucleosome concentrations compared to healthy controls. Researchers also observed higher levels in patients who later developed venous thromboembolism (VTE), highlighting the potential relevance of nucleosome biomarkers in trauma and critical care settings.
The findings add to the growing body of evidence supporting the role of circulating nucleosomes as biomarkers of inflammation, tissue injury, and disease severity.
