Dr. Chen serves as our Chief Medical Officer. He has more than 20 years of experience advancing therapies from discovery through regulatory approval. Prior to Viking, he held executive leadership roles at Loyal Animal Health, Forte Bioscience, Metacrine and Pfenex, where he led a peptide-device combination product to US and EU approvals. Earlier in his career, Dr. Chen oversaw obesity and diabetes programs at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, including combinatorial approaches for incretin and amylin analogs. Dr. Chen received his B.A. from Stanford University and M.D. from Columbia University. He completed his medical residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital and endocrine fellowship at University of California, San Francisco.
