In this month’s Culture of Joy , we are excited to celebrate Robbin for her exceptional 6 years of dedicated service to the seniors at The Waterford at College Station.
Robbin’s sincere care and commitment shine through in her relationships with the residents and her support for the team. Her passion for serving others, along with her steadfast dedication, make her an invaluable and beloved member of the Sonida family.
Q&A with Robbin
Q: Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at The Waterford at College Station?
A: I’m Robbin, and it’s been six years since I started at the community. I’m currently the Magnolia Trails Director, but I was previously an Activity Director. It’s always been the role I wanted to do.
Q: What do you love about your job most?
A: The residents. I love them, regardless of whether they’re part of the Magnolia Trails program or not.
Q: What types of activities do you love to plan?
A: We’ve done all sorts of things. I’ve coordinated slingshot rides, and we’ve had farm animals visit — from goats to donkeys!
Q: Wow, it sounds like you have a fun community!
A: We do! I’ll do anything to make them happy.
Q: What activities do the residents love to attend?
A: Our exercise class is very popular. We focus on core exercises that help with balance and posture. Believe it or not, it’s actually a great workout.
Q: I know I’d work up a sweat!
A: We start slow and work our way up. I’m very proud of them. Our residents show up every day ready for a great workout.
Q: What are other things like excite the College Station residents?
A: They love music and dancing. Cranium crunches are popular.
Q: What are cranium crunches?
A: They’re riddles! We do one every morning with our residents. Our Magnolia Trails residents love them because we sometimes use silly phrases. Here’s an example: “What is so fragile that just by saying its name breaks it?”
Q: Tell me.
A: Silence!
Q: I love that!
A: There are so many fun cranium crunches! We also host a group of local university students for networking events — almost like speed-dating. The students move while the residents get to enjoy conversations with young people. They love trying new things, and making them happy makes us happy.
Q: What would you say is the best part about working with the team?
A: Camaraderie. We all support one another, and we all love our residents.
Q: What’s life like outside of the community?
A: I was born in Canada, so ice sports are important to me. My grandchildren are involved in ice hockey and ice skating, so weekends are busy!
Q: What brought you to Texas?
A: I’ve lived in Colorado, Illinois, California, and Hawaii, and eventually ended up in Texas 14 years ago. Texas is home.
Q: What Texan flair does The Waterford at College Station have?
A: Our residents are passionate about Texas, specifically Texas A&M University. One of our residents here actually started the hockey program at A&M.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of the community at The Waterford at College Station?
A: Coming to the community every day isn’t like going to work; it’s like coming home to your second family.
