“If you persist and overcome the challenges with which you are faced, you can really change the lives of so many people” – Ferenc Tracik, CMO
Two and a half years ago, I joined NeuroSense as the Chief Medical Officer. I really enjoy working for such a small company because I am not limited to my assigned role. Instead, I am free to bring in everything I have learned throughout my career to work with the team towards our goal. That is the beauty of a biotech startup. Some of the main differences between a small biotech startup and a big pharmaceutical company are increased flexibility and the perpetual need for innovation.
I did not always want to become a doctor. When I was eighteen, my dream of becoming a ship captain was interrupted when I was placed in a palliative care unit for my compulsory national service. That is where my new dream of becoming a doctor was born. My passion for neuroscience grew in university, mainly thanks to a very special professor I was fortunate enough to have. Upon graduating, I started searching for jobs in that field.
Specifically, I was looking for an opportunity that would help me grow. Every transition in my career has been driven by my desire to learn. For example, although I knew that I eventually wanted to become a Chief Medical Officer someday, I was eager to get some experience in commercialization, even if it meant straying from clinical roles for a bit. I feel like my career would be incomplete without that experience.
My past experiences working with Israeli companies have drawn me back to this environment, not just because of their compelling missions, but also due to my deep appreciation for their culture. In Israeli companies, there’s a unique openness—where politics and hierarchy don’t stifle honest communication. Even in large organizations, people feel empowered to speak their minds, and this openness is crucial. It ensures that important perspectives are shared, which might otherwise be overlooked in more hierarchical settings. This culture of direct communication fosters innovation and drives progress
What I love most about NeuroSense is that it is the most patient-focused company I have worked for in my multi-decade career. We are very science-driven here, but we never forget the patients. Not a day goes by that I don’t talk about a patient with one of my coworkers. Everything that is done at NeuroSense is done with the patient’s best interests in mind, as you can tell by the ratio of treatment/placebo in our Phase 2b PARADIGM trial.
The greatest experience from my point of view is touching the lives of patients, families, and even healthcare providers. I am confident that we can achieve this with our proprietary therapeutic formulation- PrimeC.
My professional tip is to never give up. Do not turn around at the site of an obstacle. If you persist and overcome the challenges with which you are faced, you can really change the lives of so many people.
