We sat down with Rosalind Johnson, Site Human Resources Manager, and William Wright, Managing Director of Operations, to see how they put our Merit values to understand, innovate, and deliver into action.
A Center for Excellence
Merit Richmond manufactures and distributes the life-changing medical devices our organization is known for. From creating custom procedure kits and trays to meet physicians’ unique clinical needs to running an efficient, automated distribution system, Richmond operates as a well-oiled, precise machine.
Who’s behind it all?
“Our great team,” explains Wright. “We can produce over 32,000 kits and trays per week, which are then packaged, sterilized, and sent around the world. It’s a slick shipping system—with fantastic people running it. Everyone operates in sync.”
When faced with challenges, Merit Richmond can be counted on to rise up, come together, and take action.
Emphasis on Engagement
Last year, we launched the Merit Way, a fresh set of guiding principles to operate from. Richmond exemplifies what these values stand for, demonstrated through a high satisfaction rate among employees.
“We focus on engagement,” says Wright. “Each year, Merit as a company conducts a Gallup survey, and we take those results seriously. By listening to feedback and taking action right away whenever possible, we build trust within our team.”
“We have an open-door policy,” Johnson agrees. “If there are any issues, employees know they can come to us. We know each employee by name and make a point to remember what matters to them, like their family and their values.”
Team Activities
Showing our team that we care creates a happier, healthier work environment. One way Richmond does this is through encouraging group activities.
“By hosting short exercise sessions, such as chair aerobics and walks for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we promote healthy living,” Johnson says. “We also focus on recognition, where we acknowledge employee efforts.”
The result?
“Happy people,” says Wright. “We all come to work ready to collaborate, problem-solve, and ultimately make a difference through the products we develop and distribute.”
