Perindopril-indapamide is a small molecule being developed for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents, perindopril (an ACE inhibitor) and indapamide (a diuretic), used to lower blood pressure and potentially reduce vascular disease risk in high-risk patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Perindopril-indapamide targets the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and renal tubular sodium reabsorption. Perindopril inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme, reducing angiotensin II production, while indapamide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal tubule, promoting diuresis and vasodilation. This dual mechanism lowers blood pressure and may reduce vascular complications in Type 2 diabetes.
